As the nuclear energy industry races to meet growing global demand, one question looms larger than ever: can uranium supply keep up? TradeTech President Treva Klingbiel took center stage on October 21 at the Nuclear Energy Institute’s International Uranium Fuel Seminar (IUFS) 2026 in Houston, Texas, moderating a panel discussion among five nuclear industry professionals that tackled this very challenge head-on.
The session, titled “Supplying Uranium for the Next Generation of Nuclear Power,” zeroed in on the current and future obstacles facing global uranium supply. Panelists explored how geographic diversity, geopolitical risk, and policy choices all play critical roles in determining long-term reliability for a fuel source that powers a growing share of the world’s clean energy.
Klingbiel posed a pointed question to the experts: “What must change now to ensure uranium supply can expand at the pace, scale, and reliability required by the existing reactor fleet and the next generation of nuclear deployment?”
During the discussion of today’s uranium market, panelists weighed whether existing contract terms are robust enough to finance or restart uranium production at the scale the market may soon demand. The consensus among the group was clear: while meeting the nuclear industry’s expanding needs is achievable, dependable growth in uranium production hinges on credible demand signals, investable commercial terms, disciplined project execution, and durable policy support.
About TradeTech
TradeTech—along with its predecessor companies—has been a fixture in the uranium and nuclear fuel cycle sector for over five decades. Why it matters: As the world pushes for more nuclear power to meet climate goals and energy security needs, the uranium supply chain faces a critical test. Without credible demand signals and policy support, the industry risks falling short of what’s needed to fuel both existing reactors and the next generation of nuclear deployment—making discussions like this panel essential for charting a reliable path forward.
