“Born and raised in Riverside and an environmental scientist by profession, Patricia Lock Dawson initially secured the mayoralty in 2020 and was voted in again in March 2024, after spending nine years on the Riverside Unified School District board.
Her flagship effort is a self-created ‘Bipartisan Forum,’ a permanent assembly of seven Democrats and seven Republicans brought together since 2021 to address homelessness, mental health reform, and public safety apart from party frameworks—work she attributes to assisting in the passage of California’s CARE Court mental-health legislation, which links adults with unaddressed mental illness to medical care and housing support.
While she has been in charge, Riverside has obtained more than $300 million in state and federal funds to tackle requirements in infrastructure, homelessness, and workforce growth. In October 2025 she was chosen to head Big City Mayors, a coalition representing California’s 13 largest municipalities.”
