Dr. Jeon, recognized worldwide as a trailblazer in medical robotics, exoskeleton systems, intelligent control, and rehabilitation engineering, contributes over 35 years of experience encompassing research, innovation, teaching, industry, and government service. He obtained both his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and has held the position of Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Sogang University since 1994.

Across his notable career, Dr. Jeon has been instrumental in advancing modern rehabilitation methods through groundbreaking efforts in human–robot interaction, rehabilitation robotics, intelligent exoskeletons, and AI-powered therapy platforms. He has written approximately 150 scholarly papers, with his work cited over 1,600 times globally. His forward-looking AI Therapist research showed how artificial intelligence can enhance clinical practice by offering smart therapeutic direction during robotic rehabilitation—an early concept of what is now quickly emerging as the future of AI-driven healthcare.

Apart from his scientific achievements, Dr. Jeon has taken on numerous leadership positions at the crossroads of technology, education, and public policy, such as Dean of Engineering at Sogang University, a member of Korea’s National Science and Technology Advisory Council, and a member of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Policy Planning, assisting in crafting national approaches to science, innovation, and industrial growth.
