When a hosting provider pulls the plug on a core service, the companies depending on it have to move fast — and that’s exactly what Blockhenge just did. The Austin-based Bitcoin financial services firm has finished relocating its entire Lightning Network node stack to Amazon Web Services, a transition forced by Voltage’s decision to retire its self-service hosting product.
Blockhenge had relied on Voltage’s self-service Lightning node hosting platform since early 2024. After Voltage announced it would sunset that self-service infrastructure, Blockhenge began shifting its node operations to AWS — a process that has now been completed.
The migration covered all four of Blockhenge’s Lightning Network nodes: three infrastructure nodes and one dedicated receiving node. Close coordination between the Blockhenge and Voltage teams helped ensure the transition was completed with only minimal downtime.
“Voltage provided us with a reliable platform for operating our Lightning infrastructure over the past several years, and we appreciate their support throughout that time and during this migration,” said Dustin D. Trammell, CEO of Blockhenge.
The new AWS deployment spreads Blockhenge’s Lightning infrastructure across multiple geographic regions, specifically us-east-1, us-west-2, and eu-central-1. This distributed setup reduces reliance on any single geographic location and offers stronger resilience and redundancy in the event of a regional infrastructure disruption or failure.
The move also hands Blockhenge more direct control over the infrastructure supporting its Lightning operations, while preserving the reliability needed for its Bitcoin and Lightning services.
Organizations looking to deploy, migrate, or strengthen their Bitcoin and Lightning Network infrastructure can find more details about Bitcoin integration and infrastructure services on Blockhenge’s website.

Why it matters: This migration is a clear signal that even specialized Bitcoin infrastructure providers are moving toward big-cloud resilience, not just convenience. For businesses running Lightning operations, the shift underscores the importance of geographic redundancy and vendor independence when a hosting partner changes course.
