TrellisWare Technologies, Inc., a worldwide frontrunner in tactical communication systems, revealed today that it has effectively showcased cutting-edge communication capabilities in support of the U.S. Army’s Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) modernization initiative. More than 1,100 radios equipped with the company’s TSM® waveform were supported by TrellisWare personnel during Project Convergence Capstone 6 (PCC6). These TSM-enabled radios were deployed with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, multinational allies from New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Canada, along with a distinct U.S. SGT Stout Air Defense unit.
In PCC6, the TSM-equipped radios comprised eight different form factors, including High Assurance multichannel manpacks and handheld devices, single-channel Sensitive But Unclassified (SBU) handheld radios, high-power vehicular radio heads, and an embedded module carried on a loitering communications relay platform.
As the Army updates its command-and-control framework to address shifting operational demands, network flexibility and robustness are essential. Throughout the demonstrations, TrellisWare’s waveform solutions provided adaptable and reliable connectivity across environments ranging from benign to severely contested, including extended communication distances via UAS between large units.
Among the key technical and operational features showcased were:
• Wideband Scalability and Throughput — HDR+ has been integrated by TrellisWare into its TSM Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) waveform, offering over 50 Mbps throughput while accommodating scalable networks exceeding 800 nodes in challenging operational conditions.
• Spectrum Agility in Constrained Settings — In situations with restricted spectrum, the TSM waveform can reduce its bandwidth to operate within 1.2 MHz channels, preserving robust networking in crowded or spectrum-limited areas.
• Modern Anti-Jam (A/J) Capabilities — To counter emerging electronic warfare threats, the demonstrations utilized TrellisWare’s Katana™ waveforms, which offer resilient, uninterrupted connectivity against sophisticated jamming attacks.
• Broad-Spectrum SDR Architecture — TrellisWare’s software-defined radios deliver more than 1.5 GHz of total usable spectrum across UHF, L-band, and S-band frequencies in a single radio design, enhancing spectral flexibility and lessening the equipment load on soldiers and tactical platforms.
• Interoperability Across Nations, Vendors, and Security Levels — TrellisWare’s distinctive multi-vendor, multi-security SDR ecosystem enabled interoperability between U.S. and coalition forces using radios from various manufacturers and at differing classification levels.
