The Week’s 10 Biggest Funding Rounds: No Summer Doldrums As Dollars Still Flow To AI

There was no summer slowdown in fundraising activity, as numerous AI-heavy startups secured substantial capital infusions. The biggest deal was a $1.5 billion raise by enterprise AI company Fireworks AI, alongside a Series D for meal and delivery service Wonder. Additional large rounds this week targeted enterprise tech, food delivery, drones, and construction automation.

1. Fireworks AI, $1.5B, enterprise AI tools: Fireworks AI, which builds tools enabling enterprises to convert “general-purpose models into specialized intelligence trained on their own data,” closed $1.505 billion in Series D funding. Atreides Management, Index Ventures and TCV spearheaded the investment, which placed a $17.5 billion valuation on the San Mateo, California-based firm.

2. Wonder, $650M, meals and delivery: Wonder, a company operating kitchens and meal delivery services, finalized $650 million in Series D funding with a $9 billion pre-money valuation. Funds will be used partly to scale operations for the New York-based business, which now runs 140 locations.

3. Chai Discovery, $400M, life sciences AI: AI-driven drug discovery startup Chai Discovery garnered $400 million in Series C funding at a $3.8 billion valuation. Index Ventures headed the round, with participation from Sequoia Capital, Dimension, Kleiner Perkins and others.

4. Walden Robotics, $300M, robots: Walden Robotics, headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, emerged from stealth with $300 million in funding to build general-purpose robots for manufacturing and logistics tasks. Toyota and Deviation Capital co-led the round, giving the company a $1.1 billion valuation.
