A European initiative seeks volunteers to help build a new anthropometric reference database that enhances products across Europe.
Mit SizeEUROPE schaffen Grundlage dabei unterstützt, Produkte und Lösungen zu entwickeln"”— Karsten Newbury, President, Humanetics DigitalKAISERSLAUTERN, GERMANY, July 16, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Humanetics has launched SizeEUROPE, a Europe-wide scientific serial measurement initiative aimed at creating a new anthropometric reference dataset for today’s European population. The project addresses a growing challenge for research and industry: many body measurement datasets used as the foundation for developing vehicles, workplaces, medical devices, clothing, and consumer goods are several decades old and no longer adequately represent Europe’s current population.
Data collection has already started at the first two scanning locations in Weiterstadt near Darmstadt and in Lille. Additional sites across Europe will be added as the project progresses.
SizeEUROPE marks the first cross-border scientific serial measurement effort of this kind in Europe in many years. By employing a standardized methodology and a representative sampling plan, the project will generate a harmonized dataset that makes body measurements and body shapes from different European populations directly comparable for the first time.
For data collection, state-of-the-art contactless 3D body scanners are used. Within a few seconds, more than 150 body measurements and the three-dimensional body shape are captured. The measurement data is supplemented by a short questionnaire. The collection is carried out fully anonymized and in accordance with internationally recognized standards, including ISO 7250, ISO 8559, and ASTM.
The resulting reference dataset provides a new scientific foundation for the European population and supports long-term research, standardization, and product development across fields such as the automotive industry, aerospace, healthcare, clothing, furniture, and personal protective equipment.
In addition to seeking volunteers, SizeEUROPE also targets companies, universities, research institutions, and public organizations. As project partners, they help build a Europe-wide scientific reference database and benefit early from up-to-date anthropometric data for research, product development, and strategic decisions.
Participants wanted
The study is currently looking for adult participants at the first scanning sites in Germany and France.
Whether students, professionals, retirees, or individuals wishing to contribute to research – every participation counts. The contactless 3D scan takes only a few seconds and is followed by a short questionnaire. Each participant helps build the new European reference dataset, thereby supporting the development of safer, more ergonomic, and better-fitting products for people of all ages and body shapes.

Project partners welcome
Humanetics invites companies, universities, research institutions, and public organizations to join SizeEUROPE as project partners. Through their support, partners contribute to building the new European anthropometric reference dataset and gain early access to scientifically validated data that advances research, product development, and the creation of safer, more ergonomic, and more inclusive products.
