Singapore tops ASEAN banking CX, but human-like AI is the next hurdle

Singapore has clinched the top spot in ASEAN banking customer experience, but the region’s most advanced market now faces a more subtle challenge: making artificial intelligence feel genuinely human. That’s the central finding from Twimbit’s first-ever State of ASEAN Banking CX 2026, released today at the Twimbit Banking Summit & Awards 2026 in Kuala Lumpur.

Twimbit’s first State of ASEAN Banking CX 2026 ranks Singapore #1 with 3.99/5, leading all four pillars. Next challenge: making AI feel human.

SINGAPORE, SINGAPORE, SINGAPORE, October 31, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The city-state has outpaced its regional neighbours on every customer experience metric, according to Twimbit‘s inaugural study, which gives Singapore the highest overall banking CX score of 3.99 out of 5. That figure sits above the ASEAN average across all four pillars, while best-in-class benchmarks ranging from 4.03 to 4.22 highlight where the market still has room to grow.

Across Southeast Asia, surging digital adoption is pushing customers to demand more from their banks in terms of security, personalisation and seamless connectivity. AI, meanwhile, is becoming a routine part of the banking experience. In Singapore, where consumers already take speed and reliability for granted, the real test now is whether that intelligence can come across as personal, explainable and accountable.

Key findings for Singapore reveal a market that leads the region on all fronts. The country scores 4.05 on Digital, 3.92 on Service, 4.05 on Brand and 3.89 on Employee experience — each above the ASEAN averages of 3.92, 3.80, 3.92 and 3.78 respectively. The regional maturity level sits at 3.86.

Best-in-class institutions are setting a higher bar of 4.03 to 4.22 by leaning into AI-driven personalisation, empowering their employees and taking full ownership of customer journeys. Singapore’s strength is anchored by robust governance, strong fraud prevention and consistent omnichannel delivery, while digital ecosystems are stretching banking into payments, lifestyle rewards, wealth management and cross-border services.

Notably, Singapore’s digital banks are already using AI to make support more contextual — resolving everyday queries and passing more complex issues to human agents with full context attached. The next wave of gains, however, will come from turning digital efficiency into emotional confidence. With an ageing population, accessible and assisted digital models will become increasingly important. Twimbit’s guidance is clear: personalisation must be explainable, and the future lies in a mix of 70% self-directed service and 30% human confidence-building.

“Singapore has set the regional standard on digital, service, brand and employee experience. The next test is different. As AI takes on more of everyday banking, customers want it to understand them, explain itself and hand over to a person when it matters. The banks that make AI feel personal and accountable, not just efficient, will define the next stage of banking in Singapore and across ASEAN,” said Shivanu Shukla, Senior Vice President at Twimbit.

Key takeaways from the study: Singapore holds ASEAN’s highest banking CX score at 3.99 against a regional 3.86; it leads on all four pillars; best-in-class benchmarks of 4.03 to 4.22 show the headroom that remains; and the next challenge is AI that feels human, explainable and accountable.

About the study: The State of ASEAN Banking CX 2026 benchmarks 42 traditional and digital banks — 26 traditional and 16 digital — across six markets: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam. Twimbit analysts evaluated the top 26 banks on three customer journeys: digital savings account opening, money transfer and app experience, using public data, customer reviews and mystery shopping where applicable. This is the inaugural edition of the research.

Why it matters: As AI becomes embedded in everyday banking across ASEAN, Singapore’s lead in customer experience will only hold if institutions can bridge the gap between digital efficiency and human trust. The banks that crack the code on making AI feel personal and accountable won’t just win in Singapore — they’ll set the template for the entire region.
