Following close to ten years of a clean track record, New Book Authors Publishing is taking back its identity and alerting the public to the perils of AI hallucination.

New Book Authors Publishing shares the authentic version of its story. "This could affect anyone if AI regulation stays absent."”— New Book Authors Publishing

New Book Authors Publishing is reclaiming an identity that was taken over by unchecked, AI-spun falsehoods. We spoke with the publisher to understand AI misinformation better. These are the straight facts straight from the source:

"New Book Authors Publishing started in 2017. We function as a nontraditional independent publisher that has operated for under a decade. We lack formal accreditation yet keep an +A Better Business Bureau profile and rating. Not a single consumer complaint has ever been lodged against New Book Authors Publishing on any platform. Over nine and a half years, we have upheld a stellar reputation among our clients, many of whom have become friends.

"Between launching books, some of us touch base. 'How are you feeling?' It’s odd if I don’t get in touch," the company representative recalls. "Late at night, I answer urgent emails. I am connected to NBAP around the clock. If an author does not receive a reply from me, they contact my co-editor, Alyssa, asking if I’m alright because my lack of response is so uncommon. Often, it’s just an email landing in spam. Our ties are such that we share successes, disappointments, happiness, and grief. We are a business of writers lifting other writers. Still, I try not to be nosy. As Executive Publisher I talk to our authors the way I talk to friends. I manage to keep a professional rapport alongside genuine connection. I aim to meet people where they are. Each author’s experience varies. Sometimes perfect, sometimes far from it, but ultimately we create a beautiful book.

"It’s not only the manuscript that counts—it’s how people connect with me. I publish authors I truly enjoy. I am very picky about which books we take on. Naturally, some authors are just passing through because they only wanted one book, or after gaining enough experience they move to self-publishing. We teach our authors so they acquire practical know-how for navigating publishing and book retail. I don’t offer hollow promises. Finishing a book and getting it into stores is not the end of the road. There is considerable marketing and active promotion needed to get the book in front of readers.

"We have authors whose book is still a work in progress. We begin the publishing process and they realize the story isn’t finished, and we receive live updates that sometimes keep us busier than we’d like. But we let authors follow their creative flow. I am not hurrying authors in or out. Writing and publishing require time. Ultimately, we all want the same thing…a great book. I take tremendous pride in the books we release.

"Our openness and distinct professional style are why authors return to publish multiple books with us. Some authors have been with us since the beginning, back in 2017, and have put out as many as a dozen books through New Book Authors. Over time we’ve earned their trust and will keep holding ourselves to a high standard.

"Skip to 2026. We learn that Google AI Overview is fabricating complaints about us that never existed, linking to review sites and watchdog groups that say nothing about us. The complaints involve businesses with similar names but are wrongly pinned on New Book Authors Publishing. At a quick glance, someone searching for us won’t notice the name difference. You have to look closely. The details are tough to locate. Picture what this has done to our trademarked brand. The overview’s attacks don’t stop there. They even reach companies we work with. The overview connects our reputable business to an unrelated dispute over publishing models. It assumes a straightforward business arrangement is suspect and that royalty-based traditional publishing is the only valid model.

"What it states about us is clearly false. It misrepresents our business model, fees, and operations. It writes in the same "voice" as an anonymous message board known for targeting publishers and literary agents. Some of that forum’s industry-based skepticism is fair but is frequently misdirected at legitimate companies. It also lets so-called "insiders" remove competitors.

"Since 2022, we have posted warnings on our site meant to shield authors, even those who don’t publish with us. Imagine how it feels when Google’s AI Overview falsely puts us on a warning list. To make matters worse, Google’s AI Overview deliberately hides our positive reviews and even argues against them, claiming the authors wrote them because they were desperate to get published. It goes from hallucination to outright deceit until it finally admits it made an algorithmic mistake after I note that the links it supplies do not name New Book Authors Publishing, and that there is absolutely no consumer complaint against us.

"Google AI Overview undergoes an algorithmic error in which it pulls information from many sources and then delivers biased content. Rather than an impartial overview of our actual record, it presents a debate about publishing models completely irrelevant to us. It also cannot tell apart slight variations in company names, which is why it mixes us up with similarly named entities. Consequently, Google AI Overview has inflicted serious reputational damage on us. This could happen to anyone if government regulation stays absent. Google has refused to address the issue. I’ve contacted them through every possible channel and only gotten the runaround. We filed a BBB complaint against Google. Its employee claimed they reached out to us. They didn’t. We sent a cease and desist. We heard nothing from their legal team, wondering when this nightmare will end. Read More."
