Delivers speeds comparable to laser for air plasma cutting

HANOVER, NH, UNITED STATES, August 19, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Hypertherm Associates, a U.S.-based leading manufacturer of industrial cutting systems and software, unveiled its latest HySpeed® technology (patent pending), which allows fabricators to achieve laser-like speeds on compatible Powermax SYNC® industrial and air plasma cutting systems. This advanced plasma cutting innovation is engineered to sharply cut down cut-to-cut time for manufacturers who employ nesting techniques and to boost throughput in mechanized plasma cutting applications.

Built for the Powermax45 SYNC, 65 SYNC, 85 SYNC, and 105 SYNC plasma systems, the HySpeed technology merges optimized CAM nesting, intelligent torch motion, elevated cutting speeds, and sophisticated gas management methods to process parts more rapidly without sacrificing cut quality. For compatible Powermax SYNC models, manufacturers can instantly activate HySpeed to boost their system’s speed using existing equipment or choose to purchase a new Powermax SYNC model.

For fabrication shops handling large nests containing numerous parts and cut-outs, HySpeed technology drastically cuts non-cutting time between pierces. The software maximizes machine productivity and output by reducing torch retract time, refining travel paths, and enabling gas bleed-down to happen while the torch moves to the next pierce location.

When deployed on rigid cutting tables with high acceleration rates and capable motion and height control, HySpeed technology can reach cutting speeds up to 1,400 inches per minute (3,480 cm/min)—as much as three times faster than conventional plasma cutting speeds and comparable to fiber laser on thin mild steel materials. This enables shops to gain the advantages of laser-like cutting speeds along with greater versatility and at a lower expense.

“HySpeed technology marks a major advancement for light industrial and air plasma cutting,” said Ed Johnson, Product Manager at Hypertherm. “We push ourselves to explore what’s possible with our products, and here we developed a plasma cutter that produces parts at the speed of laser without compromising part quality.”

The technology is integrated via Hypertherm’s Powermax SYNC plasma systems, ProNest® or ProNest LT nesting software, and EDGE® Connect CNC with Phoenix® software. Together, these systems optimize part sequencing, lead placement, and torch travel paths to cut down unnecessary movement and maximize cutting efficiency.

Beyond higher cutting speeds, HySpeed technology lowers the risk of torch collisions and unplanned downtime by intelligently guiding torch movement around cut parts and potential obstacles. It is especially effective when cutting thin mild steel materials ranging from 26 gauge to 3/16 inch (0.5 mm to 5 mm).

“HySpeed offers a practical way to increase output while preserving the cut quality and dependability that Powermax SYNC systems are known for,” Johnson added.
