Secretariat and ACEDS' 2026 AI Report reveals how AI is transforming the legal industry, from adoption and workflows to governance, risks, and opportunities.
ATLANTA, GA, UNITED STATES, July 23, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — According to the 2026 Artificial Intelligence Report, produced by Secretariat in partnership with ACEDS, AI has achieved nearly complete adoption throughout the legal field. The conversation has shifted from whether AI is utilized to which specific AI tools are in use, how they are woven into routine legal processes, and what risks need management to maintain accuracy, defensibility, and adherence to professional and ethical standards.
In its second year of collaboration with ACEDS on this survey, Secretariat notes that the industry is quickly progressing from testing phases to full operational integration. Generative AI has become a standard element of legal work, with survey participants indicating increased usage in activities such as document creation, legal research, online searches, document assessment, document condensation, eDiscovery, and other essential legal tasks.
Major takeaways from the report are:
– 91% of respondents used Generative AI in the past year, demonstrating a major shift from experimentation to everyday use
– Data privacy and confidentiality remain the leading barrier to AI adoption (57%), with hallucinations rising sharply (46%) to become the second-highest barrier ahead of cost (40%)
– 64% of respondents expect their organization’s investment in AI to increase over the next 12 months, reflecting continued momentum in adoption and deployment
The results also highlight that faster adoption brings both advantages and hazards. While organizations gain speed and efficiency, they simultaneously face escalating concerns about privacy, confidentiality, trust, and defensibility.
