A dental record patients actually own: Intake Dental launches the Dental Passport

A complimentary, patient-controlled record is stored in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet and can be used at any dental practice — even those unfamiliar with the company

DOVER, DE, UNITED STATES, August 26, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Intake Dental has announced that the Dental Passport is now broadly accessible — a free, patient-owned dental record that resides in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet and accompanies the patient to any dental practice.

Nearly every dental record a patient can currently access is owned by someone else. Practice portals stop at a single office’s entrance. X-rays remain inside imaging systems. Patients who switch dentists, relocate, or travel often must begin again with a paper medical history and a release form, leaving their new dentist without images taken six months ago. Additionally, patients abroad may struggle to fill out health history forms and accurately convey their prior treatments.

The Dental Passport flips that model. The patient holds the record: medical history, X-rays, insurance information, and a stored signature, all kept in the phone wallet they already use for boarding passes. Scanning the pass at a participating front desk checks the patient in with intake already finished and insurance already on file. For every other practice, the passport sends a verified records package via email or fax — so it functions with offices that use none of Intake Dental’s software.

Access is granted, not assumed. Offices request records; the patient approves on their phone; every access is logged. Nothing is shared without permission.
“Patients have always been told the records are theirs, and then discovered that what that means in practice is a printout, if you ask, and a wait,” said Jordan Thomas, DMD, founder of Intake Dental and a practicing dentist. “I wanted the version where a patient walks into any office in the world and the dentist can see the patient records in any language. That is better dentistry, not just better paperwork. It’s the difference between guessing and knowing.”

The passport reads in 19 languages, and the receiving office still receives everything in its own language — a capability that matters for patients who travel for care or move between countries, and for the offices that then must treat them without a history.

Two features go beyond the record itself. With consent, each visit is summarized in plain language: what was done, what it means, what happens next. And patients can send their records to another office for an online second opinion — useful for anyone who has received a quote for major work and wants another clinician to review it before deciding.

The Dental Passport is free to create, free to keep, and free to use, with no advertising and no data sold. It is also free for any dental office to accept.
“We are the custodian, not the owner,” Thomas said. “If we ever start behaving like the owner, patients should leave and take the record with them. That’s rather the point.”

The Dental Passport is available now at my.intake.dental.
