As social platforms increasingly control user data and ranking algorithms, a new investment signals growing momentum for open, user-governed alternatives. Blockhenge, an Austin-based Bitcoin-first financial services firm, has placed a strategic bet on Nostr4, a Delaware Public Benefit Corporation building standards and infrastructure for the Nostr protocol.
Blockhenge announced its investment in Nostr4, which develops Nostr standards, infrastructure products, and integration services tailored for social technology companies. The deal was executed through a SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity), positioning the startup for a future funding round.
Nostr4 was founded in February 2026 with a clear mission: help social technology companies adopt Nostr and non-custodial architecture as a viable business model. Rather than relying on centralized servers or custodial data controls, the company promotes a framework where users retain ownership of their identity, communications, and data.

The startup’s flagship offering, TrustR, is a standards-based discovery and recommendation provider built specifically for non-custodial social applications. TrustR allows for portable, configurable ranking of users and content, enabling apps to tap into shared discovery and recommendation infrastructure instead of building and maintaining those systems in-house. This approach could lower barriers for smaller platforms seeking to offer personalized experiences without sacrificing user control.
With the new seed funding, Nostr4 plans to continue developing TrustR, grow its user base through discounted Nostr integration services, and produce metrics that demonstrate the value of interoperability across applications. The company is positioning itself not just as a tool provider, but as a catalyst for a more connected and open social web.
“Blockhenge has been a trusted companion for a few years on this Nostr journey,” said Manuel Mejia, Founder and CEO of Nostr4. “Our companies operate at the intersection of free speech and economic freedom, and we believe Nostr has a unique opportunity to create meaningful value for technology companies while advancing a more open and interoperable social ecosystem.”
This investment reflects a shared philosophical alignment between the two firms around open protocols and infrastructure that prioritize user-controlled identity, communications, and data. Nostr4’s status as a Public Benefit Corporation underscores its stated mission: expanding access to user-governed, interoperable services built on open protocol standards.

If TrustR and similar tools gain traction, they could reshape how social platforms balance personalization with user autonomy—potentially setting a new standard for the industry.
