As India posted the highest LEI growth rate worldwide in Q2 2026, eMudhra’s role as a Validation Agent will enable easier and faster large-scale issuance
eMudhra Limited (NSE:EMUDHRA)
10 September 2026 – Mumbai – Indian organizations will now enjoy a more streamlined path to securing and renewing Legal Entity Identifiers (LEIs), as eMudhra Limited (eMudhra) embeds LEI application and renewal into its existing identity-verification and onboarding workflows. The Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) today announces that eMudhra has been designated a Validation Agent of Legal Entity Identifier India Limited (LEIL) within the Global LEI System, making this integration possible.
Operating as a Validation Agent of LEIL, which is a GLEIF-accredited LEI Issuer and a fully owned subsidiary of the Clearing Corporation of India Limited (CCIL), eMudhra will embed LEI request and renewal services into its current identity verification and onboarding procedures. LEIL remains the sole LEI Issuer authorized by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act. This collaboration reduces the need for organizations to undergo separate verifications across different channels. LEIL will oversee the issuance and upkeep of LEI records in line with Global LEI System standards.
This appointment illustrates how globally harmonized organizational identity can be woven into current digital trust frameworks. This enables organizations to present a consistent identity across financial markets, payment networks, and cross-border digital operations.
Based in Bengaluru, India, eMudhra supplies digital identity, authentication, and trust services to customers in more than 35 countries. As India’s biggest licensed Certifying Authority and a globally acknowledged public Certificate Authority, it contributes extensive expertise in public key infrastructure (PKI), electronic signatures, identity and access management, and certificate lifecycle management to the Global LEI System.
India has increasingly woven the LEI into its financial framework. In March 2026, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released a master direction that consolidated existing LEI requirements for certain transactions involving government securities, money market instruments, foreign exchange instruments, and derivatives. All participants, whether resident or non-resident, conducting transactions covered by the direction must obtain an LEI and keep it current.
This regulatory groundwork has fueled ongoing LEI uptake in India. By January 2026, India had become the jurisdiction with the largest number of active LEIs and posted the highest growth rate of any jurisdiction in the second quarter. Embedding LEI services into established onboarding pathways can meet this demand while making standardized organizational identity more accessible across India’s financial landscape.
This development also mirrors a broader trend toward uniform organizational identification in cross-border financial activities. The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) revised Recommendation 16 in June 2025. That revision sets standardized information requirements for certain cross-border payments and recognizes the LEI as an identifier usable for legal persons. Jurisdictions are required to implement the updated rules by the end of 2030.
Alexandre Kech, CEO of GLEIF, comments: “Sustained growth in the adoption and application of the LEI in India over recent years shows how trusted, verifiable organizational identity supports transparency and interoperability across the global digital economy. Welcomig eMudhra as a Validation Agent will help meet increasng demand for the LEI in India and internationally, supporting regulatory compliance and promoting market-led innovation.”
Nand Kishore, Director of LEIL, comments: “We welcome eMudhra as a Validation Agent, a collaboration that marks a step forward in simplifying and accelerating LEI acquisition. By combining eMudhra’s operational network and digital capabilities with our decade-long expertise in issuing and managing LEIs, we are enabling organizations to fulfill their identity verification requirements seamlessly. This integration strengthens our validation framework and reinforces our commitment to data quality, transparency, and strict adherence to the regulatory standards. We look forward to driving the synergies necessary to scale trusted digital identity infrastructure, providing enhanced security and value to the broader financial markets.”
Kaushik Srinivasan, Co-Founder of eMudhra, comments: “Becoming a Validation Agent of LEIL in the Global LEI System is a natural extension of eMudhra’s role as a trusted Certifying Authority. It lets our clients obtain a single, globally recognized identity through a seamless onboarding journey – enabling faster access and supporting their compliance and cross-border growth.”
The Validation Agent role allows financial institutions and other supervised entities involved in legal entity identity verification and validation to obtain and maintain LEIs for their clients in cooperation with accredited LEI Issuers. Globally, there are over 20 Validation Agents, spanning Africa, Australasia, China, Europe, India, the Middle East, and North America.
